Recovery Period

After surgery, you will be taken to a recovery room. The typical recovery room stay is between 60 and 90 minutes. Once you are awake, family members may join you in the recovery room.

Returning Home

A responsible adult must take you home after the surgery. You will not be allowed to drive home by yourself. In addition, someone should remain with you for 24 hours following surgery.

After you have returned home, follow your doctor’s instructions regarding diet, rest, and medication. You may feel tired, light-headed, or dizzy for up to 24 hours after the surgery. This is very typical. Do not drive, drink alcohol, operate heavy machinery, or make important decisions for at least 24 hours.

General Discharge Instructions

Prior to discharge, you will receive written instructions for your care at home. If you did not get your pain medication filled before the surgery, you will want to do that as soon as possible. If you have any questions or problems after the surgery, contact your physician or surgeon immediately.

Post-Surgery Concerns

If you have any questions or concerns regarding post-operative signs or symptoms, please contact your physician or surgeon immediately.
